Three questions for every customer

The sales practices consent orders led to the largest remediation effort in Wells Fargo's history, and it ran for years. I was the lead analyst on it. I wrote all of the SAS and SQL code and did the data investigation across many different databases to answer three questions:

  1. Which customers were affected?
  2. How much were they affected?
  3. How much does the bank owe them?

No single system held those answers. Each one had to be pieced together from data spread across many databases.

Why it had to be right

Auditability and scale were hard requirements. If the analysis misses a customer, someone doesn't get the refund or correction they're owed. And every amount has to hold up when it's reviewed.
